The Most Expensive Classroom Ever
Well, I probably should have said it was going to be the most EXPENSIVE year ever. I mean, the best too, but definitely the most expensive. I don’t understand it — how do teachers do it? They gave me a completely empty classroom. Well, I mean, it had some pretty beat-up, sad-looking furniture, but no books, no toys, no posters, no colors at all. And I’m supposed to teach five-year olds! Five-year olds need color! So, of course I had to go out and buy some things for the classroom. I mean I couldn’t expect kindergartners to sit on the cold tile floor — they needed a rug! And of course, if they were going to have a rug, it should be colorful and probably educational too, but who knew that colorful, educational rugs cost between $300 and $600??? I mean, I had NO IDEA! I settled for a colorful length of carpet from a local discount place. Lucky for me, it was on major clearance — 40 bucks!
Of course, the rug has no educational value whatsoever and it has ragged edges because it’s a carpet not a rug, but it’s bright and covered in colorful, geometric patterns, so I figure I got a great deal! And thank goodness, because I’ve been spending money like a crazy person ever since. I had to buy a bunch of books for my classroom library (I mean how can you be expected to teach children to read without any books??) plus I needed posters and bulletin board sets and office supplies like paper clips (can you believe the school doesn’t supply that stuff?) plus art supplies and paper for kids to write on and well, the list goes on and on.
So far, I’ve spent $486.25 and I haven’t received my first paycheck yet! But I know it’s going to all be worth it. I can’t wait to meet my students — this is going to be the best year ever!!
My First Classroom!
It’s official! I have an actual classroom! I can’t believe it. It seems like I’ve been waiting for this moment my entire life. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, and now my chance is finally here. I am officially the newest kindergarten teacher at Angels Among Us Elementary School. Isn’t that amazing? I cannot WAIT to meet all my little 5-year old angels. I know this is going to be the best year of my life!
